Tak Bat Dok Mai Festival
Daily Photos from Thailand
Monday 30th July, 2007 at 23:00:20| Words: 104 words | Category: Thai Festivals
The Tak Bat Dok Mai floral offering merit-making ritual is unique to Saraburi province. This ritual stands out from the merit-making activities conducted in the other parts of Thailand because in addition to the offerings of cooked rice, food, incense, candles and other conventional sacred items, the Tak Bat Dok Mai ritual includes offerings of Dok Khao Phansa flowers that only come into bloom during the Buddhist Lent, hence the origin of its name. The residents of Amphoe Phra Phutthabat have observed this tradition of making floral offerings since ancient times and it has now become a significant provincial event. Saturday 21st July, 2007 at 08:41:07| Words: 144 words | Category: People in the News
For the past 30 years, Susan Aldous has been an inspiration to many: Cambodian refugees, terminally ill prostitutes, Thai prison officers, drug addicts, disabled children in Laos and thousands of prisoners wasting away in Thailand's squalid prisons. Impressive achievements for a high-school dropout and former hell raiser who rebelled against her suburban upbringing in Australia, because, as she explains: “I wanted my life to have meaning. I didn’t want it be just three meals a day, getting married, having kids, and dying.” With the help of Dublin-born author Nicola Pierce, Susan now recounts her transformative journey in her inspirational memoirs The Angel of Bang Kwang Prison. 'Something that I find particularly rewarding about writing my book was in knowing that I was giving a voice to those who suffer unimaginable indignities, " she says.

The hacker put a smiling picture of former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra on it. The animated picture of Thaksin was imposed on black background, showing him smiling and waving. The homepage also displayed "take back your dictatorship and return our Thailand" beside Thaksin's picture. The ICT reported that they were confident to catch the hacker within a short time.
