Thai school children inspect their burnt school building at a village in Thailand's restive southern province of Pattani December 27, 2007. The 90-student school building was burnt late Wednesday while the roads to the school were filled with standing nails to delay firefighters' access, the school principal said. More than 2,600 people have been killed since violence exploded four years ago in the four southernmost provinces of Yala, Narathiwat, Pattani and Songkhla, an independent Muslim sultanate until annexed by Buddhist Thailand about a century ago. Other Side of Christmas

Daily Photos from Thailand

Wednesday 26th December, 2007 at 10:02:02| Words: 109 words | Category: News Photos

"Christmas 2007: once a prosperous baby born out of a proud mother; today vegetating in a corner as a bit of trash under the eyes of the traffic-police cops in their booth at 30 meters distance. I am not a doctor but this poor fellow will die within weeks of being undernourished and might be some illnesses like tuberculoses with 3 hospitals nearby: Bangkok Christian Hospital, Queen Sirikit Institute of Medicine / Red Cross Society and Chulalongkorn Hospital, all just at the other side of the road!!! And what can I do? Only observe and publish his picture. What a tragedy!" - Toni/flickr
