A form of lawn bowling, petanque is a 100-year-old French sport usually associated with the pastis-sozzled old men of provinces. But a curious thing is happening. From the cool canal quays of Paris to the heart of celebrity-strewn Saint Tropez, petanque has become the height of hipster fashion. The biggest overseas federation is in Thailand, where King Bhumibol's mother, Princess Srinagarindra, introduced it in the 1970s. (AP)
